Really? A $13B fine for JPMorgan Chase's involvement in the 2008 housing market collapse? Fines and legal penalties are supposed to be about deterrence - not punishment nor restitution. And in order to deter fraud and scams of the magnitude that collapses the global economy, they have to be punishable by decades in Federal prison. Otherwise, Dimon and his associates will set aside $20B in a 'hazard fund' like most criminal cartels do, and do it again. I'm not speaking out of vindictiveness; I'm merely analyzing the situation and determining what it will take to avoid a repeat. And in that sense, a $13B fine is an absolute joke.
