The Shutdown Game Of Chicken

As House Republicans and Senate Democrats take turns amending the same legislation back and forth and blaming each other for insuring a shutdown by doing so; it's tempting to think of them as 2 small children fighting over a doll in the sandbox until they break it. But the reality is that each has the same, unfortunately effective political strategy - forcing an unpopular stalemate and hoping the other side gets blamed for it and takes a beating in the next election. And in THAT game of 'chicken', my prediction is that Republicans win - their base is more radicalized and more sympathetic to such tactics, whereas Democrats' own safe voters are more likely to blame both parties and rebel in the Primaries.
