I can really sum it all up in one line - "FUCK THE POLICE STATE, ITS INDUSTRIAL PROFITEER COMPLEX, AND CRONY POLITICIANS. I MERRILY DANCE ON THEIR GRAVES."
Diane Feinstein is absolutely right that extrajudicial information-gathering on US citizens is nothing new. However, the fact that these practices are as old as time does NOT make them Constitutional. Neither does the Patriot Act or any other legislation, as the Constitution supersedes legislation and not vice-versa. And the LAST thing to legitimize them is the braindead rambling of partisan scum on both sides of the aisle - Barbara Mikulski, Harry Reid, Mike Rogers, Lindsay Graham - that they are "necessary to protect Americans" and "stop terrorist attacks". I'm still waiting for North Korea to nuke us like Rep. Rogers promised. We know them to be career liars, and they give 0 details or evidence, yet we're supposed to take their word on this? PATHETIC.
It is the nature of government to overstep its bounds and betray the
trust of its citizens, allegedly to protect them from invisible enemies
but really with a variety of other ulterior motives mixed into the
equation. However, modern technology and cultural changes are making it impossible to do so covertly, and it warms my heart to watch the bureaucrats and politicians behave like 6-y-os caught with their hands in the cookie jar when it is exposed. Like everything else human, government responds to accountability and transparency and will stop doing this when it becomes too costly to hide. Throw your blind faith in its benevolence into the fire; along with the politicians who insult your intelligence by telling you to have unfounded trust in them.
